History

In 1982 the Société de Microélectronique Industrielle de Sherbrooke Inc.(SMIS Inc.) was founded by the Université de Sherbrooke. Following a partnership agreement between C-MAC and Université de Sherbrooke, the name was changed to SMIS R&D Inc. in 1999.

SMIS R&D Inc. became a division of Solectron following the acquisition of C-MAC by Solectron in 2001. In the summer of 2007, Solectron was acquired by Flextronics and on April 1st, 2008 Groupe Lagassé made a strategic acquisition of SMIS R&D Inc.
